About

For me, starting with: “why?” is the most important question for exploring and examining life—the crux of all good theatre text—and is foundational for analyzing text, character motivation, and the story.

I have been a theatre professional in the Detroit area for over 20 years.  In 1993, I achieved my Bachelors in Fine Arts from Wayne State University where I was supported by a full four-year academic scholarship and earned a number of talent scholarships, including the Blakely Scholarship for Theatre Excellence in my junior year.  Highlights of my post BFA work include working with the Attic Theatre Company (at the Alley Theatre) and co-founding R.A.T. (real alternative theatre) a theatre production company which operated in Detroit for a number of years.

In 2006, I co-founded the Ringwald Theatre in Ferndale, Michigan and acted as its Executive Director for just under 10 years.  While at the Ringwald I was active in all facets of theatre production—engaging in the artistic side of theatre through play direction and acting as well as all operational activities, including theatre management and marketing.  Our goal was to tell stories that blurred the lines between race, income, religion, and sexuality.  My work at the Ringwald Theatre produced almost a hundred diverse theatre productions.  I also organized and operated our acting classes through two separate programs, Scenery which was a scene study workshop for adults active in 2008-2009 and Theatre Lab, which was a theatre acting camp for young adults that I conducted.

In 2000, I returned to Wayne State University to study law.  I obtained my Juris Doctorate in 2003 and have practiced law for the past 14 years.
